Veterinary Chinese Herbal Medicine

CIVT1006 Foundation Course in Veterinary Chinese Herbal Medicine

The intention of this course is to provide veterinarians with a comprehensive intermediate education in the fundamentals of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The course covers a broad range of formulas beyond the top 20 in the Getting Started Series.

  • You will learn how to apply Chinese medical concepts and classical formulae knowledge to your animal patients.
  • You will learn how to differentiate the pattern of disharmony, select appropriate treatment strategies and herbal formulae, individualise treatments, modify prescriptions and evaluate a patient's response to treatment.
  • You will also explore treatment strategies that include modifying drug treatments and introducing nutritional changes.
  • You will learn how to dose appropriately in different individuals and different species, and recognise side-effects and adverse reactions.

More complex disease patterns will be explored. The course is very much self-directed and self-assessed, with tutor support and access to case support during the course. It is based on a series of DVD lectures for each system and lecture notes , its like being in the classroom or at a conference. This course is based on some of the core material covered in the Certification program, with Dr Steve Marsden presenting the information, however this course does not lead to certification by IVAS. It does not cover the breadth and depth of the Certification course  but will provide adequate training for a veterinarian who wishes to incorporate a reasonable level of knowledge into their practice in the subjects covered in the course outline.

On completion of the course you will receive a Certificate in Proficiency in Chinese Herbal Therapy. If you complete the course and wish to proceed to certification by IVAS, you will receive credit of US $250.00 towards the Certification program as a rebate AND you will receive recognition of prior learning which means you will be exempt from some of the assessment activities.
