Dr Neal Sivula Presents 'Treating Neurologic and Musculoskeletal Disease with Acupuncture' 

This webinar will introduce some of the concepts of neurophysiologic acupuncture, with an emphasis on treating neurologic and musculoskeletal disease. There will be a discussion of various needling techniques, including classical, superficial, deep, periosteal, and segmental methods. The philosophy of using acupuncture from a neurologic perspective will be introduced, followed by a discussion of trigger points and their treatment. We will briefly review the pertinent parts of the nervous system and how it impacts our practice of acupuncture. Segmental acupuncture theory will be detailed, explaining the theory behind acupuncture point selection from a neurological perspective. Acupuncture treatment protocols for various orthopedic and neurologic issues will be covered, including general osteoarthritis, stifle osteoarthritis, sciatica, cervical pain, back pain, and tendinitis, among others. The webinar will end with a few case presentations of small animal orthopedic and neurologic cases. The attendee will leave the webinar with a basic understanding of the concepts behind neurophysiologic acupuncture and how it is practiced in the small animal clinic.

Presented by Dr Neal Sivula DVM, PhD, FAAVA

Dr. Sivula received his DVM from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He completed an internship, clinical residency, and PhD from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. He is certified in Animal Chiropractic from the College of Animal Chiropractors (COAC) and the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA), in Veterinary Acupuncture from the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS), and in Veterinary Chinese Herbalism and Food Therapy from the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. He also holds an advanced acupuncture certification from the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture (Fellow of the AAVA). Dr. Sivula is also a Usui Reiki Master. Dr. Sivula is a past board member of the AVCA, COAC, and the AAVA. He is also a past President of the AAVA. He is currently an Executive Editor of the American Journal of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, Chair of the Integrative Medicine Committee for the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, and Chair of the Advanced Certification Committee of the AAVA. He also serves as the AAVA’s Alternate Delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates.He is a Principle teacher for the Advanced Certification in Neuro-acupuncture.
